Matiang’i Returns to Kisii, Stirs Talk of 2027 Presidential Run

KISII — Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has begun a tour of the Gusii region, marking his first public appearance since speculation began about a potential 2027 presidential bid.

The visit includes planned meetings with residents and the governors of Kisii and Nyamira counties, according to organisers of the tour. Several elected leaders are expected to accompany him during the engagements.

Matiang’i did not make any formal announcement regarding his political intentions but stated: “I’m here to reconnect with the people. This region matters deeply to me.”

His appearance comes as discussions about the 2027 general election continue to grow, with some political figures expressing early support for his possible candidacy.

No official campaign has been launched, and Matiang’i has not confirmed whether he intends to run for president.
