Nick Mudimba: A Heartfelt Farewell to a Renowned Journalist

On April 3, 2025, a requiem mass for the late Nick Mudimba was held at the Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi, attended by family, friends, and colleagues. The seasoned journalist, who passed away unexpectedly on March 23, will be laid to rest in Gem, Siaya County, on Saturday, April 5.

Mudimba, 37, tragically collapsed while watching a Kenyan football match against Gabon. He leaves behind a grieving widow, Winnie, who is heavily pregnant with their first child, and a nine-year-old daughter. His wife, due to give birth this month, shared an emotional tribute to her late husband, describing the loss as the most difficult experience of her life.

With deep sorrow, she wrote, “With a broken heart, I say goodbye to the love of my life. There are losses that can never be replaced, and losing you is the hardest thing I will ever face. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye— I would never have been.”

She fondly recalled the intimate moments when Mudimba would rest his hand on her belly, praying for their unborn child’s well-being. “In those moments, I saw your heart in its purest form, filled with love and devotion,” she wrote. Mudimba, who was known for his kindness, was not just her partner but also her best friend, confidant, and a gentleman who would drop her off at work and pick her up after long days.

In her tribute, his wife expressed a love that would transcend time. “Thank you for loving me the way you did, for showing me what true devotion looks like, and for leaving behind a love so strong that not even time can erase. I will carry you with me always—in our child’s laughter, in the stories I will tell, in the songs we will sing, and in every beat of my heart.”

Mudimba’s passing has left a hole in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of love and dedication will live on in his family and the many lives he touched during his career
