Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, is under probe following allegations of making death threats against Resident Magistrate Gladys Kiama.
The threats reportedly came after Magistrate Kiama ordered Salasya to pay a debt of Ksh 500,000 to businessman Robert Lutta, with interest and court costs.

This begun on December 13, 2022, when Lutta filed a case against the legislator for failing to repay a loan within the agreed two-month period. According to a police report filed at Kakamega Police Station, the situation took a dangerous turn when Salasya confronted Magistrate Kiama outside the courtroom.
“He confronted her outside the courtroom and threatened to kill her and then took off,” read the police report.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has wasted no time in calling for swift action against the accused MP. LSK President Eric Theuri emphasized the importance of protecting the independence of the judiciary.
“The Judiciary plays a pivotal role in upholding justice, and any attempts at interference with its independence is a matter of grave concern,” Theuri stated.
