Therefore, most of these advices may be overwhelming to an individual. But what is important is for someone to know themselves, that is, their values and goals.

These are essential as one has to apply them in their daily lives during their stay in campus. This is because mostly what people think campus or college life is, does not actually exist.

This especially in Kenya, whereby most form four leavers have watched movies, series and shows that try to depict how campus or college life looks like. While in fact, what they show is almost opposite to what they do not show.

Some of the things students must know before joining college include:

Do not follow crowds

Learn how to be honest with yourself. This will really save you from depression, anxiety and stress. When one keeps following the crowds, they will always feel some type of way less.

This is because one will live trying to prove themselves to people who do not care.

In addition, for example if its hard to study in the morning or attend morning classes. It is better to try and maximize the evening hours so as to study and learn more.

This will help to keep up, mostly if their is no influence from other people to not study or attend the classes.

Apply for scholarships and grants

Scholarships and grants can be life-changing. Most students in campus or college survive and complete their studies with these.

In Kenya, their is a board that specifically offers loans, grants and scholarships for college students. This board is known as HELB.

If one does not want to burden their parents or guardians with fees or knows that they might have financial problems, it is better for them to apply for HELB.

This is because it helps make their lives easier, as they may also be able to get enough money for pocket money.

Keep your family or guardian close

If you are moving away for college, the transition can leave you feeling homesick sometimes. Therefore, it is good for one to call their family so as to talk and even borrow money during hard times.

In addition, family can help when one is making hard decisions. They may help contribute one or two that can be useful.

Attend orientation

Most colleges have a mandatory orientation for their incoming first-year students. It could be a one-day or three-day weekend event. No matter how long yours is, it is important to attend and make the most of it.

Many students meet their lifelong friends during this event. It can also set you up for success with your housing, class schedule, and placement in your courses.

Be able to want to learn new things

College life helps one to transition to adulthood smoothly. Therefore, when one is in college there are different things they should master.

One is the art of knowing how to budget their money. This comes in handy especially when one is able to live alone depending on themselves.

Another thing one should want to learn is knowing how to make money legally, this maybe in terms of business or in other ways.

This helps to reduce the burden of asking for money almost every time.
