Going into the match, Gor occupied the second spot in the league standings with nine points from two wins and three draws.

On the other hand, AFC Leopards who were yet to secure a victory came into the derby with four draws and one defeat, resulting in only four points so far.

Gor Mahia had an early chance to take the lead when Kaycie Odhiambo made a mistake and Lewis Opiyo saved Austin Odhiambo’s strong curling shot.

Ingwe responded with a shot from Victor Otieno that Kevin Omondi saved, leading to a corner.

As both teams sought a goal, AFC began to push forward with more players.

Kogalo successfully dispossessed AFC Leopards and initiated a swift counter-attack.

A precise pass from Austin Odhiambo reached the league’s top scorer, Benson Omala, who calmly put it past the approaching Leopards’ goalkeeper, securing a 1-0 lead.

In the 32nd minute, a long-range delivery caused some trouble for Gor’s goalkeeper after Brian Yakhama missed it. Fortunately, the ball didn’t find its way into the net.

Five minutes later, Vincent Mahiga’s cross once again posed a challenge for Omondi, who fumbled the ball but was fortunate that it didn’t cross the goal line.

In the second half, AFC Leopards persisted in their efforts to level the score but had difficulty generating clear-cut scoring opportunities.

Gor Mahia struck again in the 56th minute and extended their lead as Patrick Sibomana’s low pass eluded Opiyo, enabling Omala to tapt the ball into the unguarded net, securing his sixth goal in six matches this season.

In the final moments of the match, Omala had an opportunity for a third goal but couldn’t get it past Opiyo. He pleaded for a penalty, but the referee granted a corner instead.
