Napoli’s winger, Matteo Politano and Giacomo Raspadori, both found the back of the net in the second half to nullify the two first-half headers by Olivier Giroud.

AC Milan, coming off a 1-0 home loss to Juventus last weekend, are currently in third place with 22 points, trailing leaders Inter Milan by three points and Juventus by one.

Napoli occupies the fourth spot with 18 points.

For what we created today, two goals are too few,” Milan coach Stefano Pioli told DAZN.

“When you lead 0-2 you have to take the game home.”We shouldn’t have conceded that first goal, giving the opponent courage. It’s not like we stopped playing; on the contrary. We weren’t passive but if we dominated in the first half, we did a little less so in the second,”Stefano added.

The game got off to a lively start and Giroud had an initial opportunity, but his close-range shot was blocked by Napoli’s defensive line.

Thee Frenchman displayed precision as he opened the scoring for Milan in the 22nd minute, heading in the first goal from Christian Pulisic’s assist.

He added another goal with a close-range header, capitalizing on Davide Calabria’s cross, just nine minutes later.

Napoli, who have had most shots taken in Serie A this season with 166 chances before the kick-off,appeared ineffective against Milan in the first half.

Politano sparked Rudi Garcia’s side into life when he scored five minutes after the break.

Before the one-hour mark, Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia both had opportunities.

In the 63rd minute, Giacomo Raspadori evened the score with an unstoppable shot from a free kick.

Raspadori’s goal marked the first direct free kick goal in this Serie A season.

In stoppage time, Milan’s Calabria came close to scoring with a header but narrowly missed the target.

Napoli, who were without striker Victor Osimhen due to a hamstring injury sustained on international duty, found themselves reduced to 10 players in the 89th minute when defender Natan received his second yellow card for a foul.

In the early stages of the match, Milan had to replace defender Pierre Kalulu due to injury, bringing in 21-year-old Marco Pellegrino for his debut.

Napoli’s upcoming fixture is an away match against the team at the bottom of the table, Salernitana, on Saturday.

Milan will host Udinese, who are in the 18th position, later on the same day.
