According to Jamaica’s education minister, more than 60 kids were admitted to hospital after consuming weed (cannabis sativa) infused candies.
The students, who ranged in age from seven to 12, came from St Ann’s Bay, which is about 50 miles outside Kingston, the island’s capital, according to Fayval Williams, the country’s education minister. She said that some kids experienced bouts of vomiting and hallucinations but none of them was said to be seriously ill.

According to the school’s administration, a “lone vendor” distributed the candies to the pupils, as reported by the Jamaica Observer. Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, the commander of the St. Ann police force, has urged the individual in question or anybody with information about them to get in touch with the police.
The sweets are said to have been manufactured by a company in the US state of California, where marijuana is legal, but it is not FDA-approved.
In 2015, Jamaica decriminalized the personal use of small amounts of cannabis, often known as marijuana. However, the government does not permit the import of edibles containing narcotics, according to Health Minister Christopher Tufton, who spoke to local media.
The event occurred more than a week after over 90 kids in South Africa got sick from eating drug-laced muffins that they allegedly purchased from a street vendor, according to officials.

Ms Williams shared images of the product package for the sweets through her X, formerly known as Twitter, page, which clearly states that it is not intended for sale to kids.
