The Red Devils have had a difficult beginning to the new season, suffering losses in three of their first five matches, including defeats against Spurs, Arsenal, and Brighton.

United are one of the underperformers so far, having collected just six points from a possible 15.

Guardiola’s team are of course firm favourites having five wins from five.

Speaking ahead of their first Champions League group game against Red Star Belgrade, he was quick to stress there’s plenty of competition.,”You know how strong are Arsenal Liverpool again, the mentality will continue there,” he said.

A reporter in the room interjects with the name of City’s rivals, prompting a chuckle from Guardiola in reply.

The City boss then says: ‘Everyone has to find something inside to want to get better, every player must go over their limits and feel that otherwise it’s difficult.”

“Well they didn’t start like they expected, like Chelsea. But always, they are Man United, and Chelsea sooner or later they will take the rhythm,” he added.

United spent big in the summer to land the likes of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund as Erik ten Hag addressed problem positions after what was a promising first year in the job.

Following Manchester United’s recent 3-1 home defeat to Brighton, there have been speculations of disarray within the club, amid off-field concerns involving Antony and Jadon Sancho.
