Since the start of this year, there have been an astounding 502 mass shootings in the United States, according to the Gun Violence Archive, a non-profit organization devoted to tracking gun-related violence and incidents.
The report emphasizes the nation’s increasing worry over gun violence. The Gun Violence Archive raised the alarm late last month by reporting a concerning rise in the number of mass shooting incidents in 2023 compared to other years.

According to the research group, the country had never seen more than 500 shootings in a year before the current worrying trend began barely five years ago. The Monterey Park, California, incident in January, where gunman Huu Can Tran, 72, killed eleven people and injured nine others in a primarily Asian neighborhood on the night of Lunar New Year, was the bloodiest shooting this year.
The nation was also stunned by the gun violence at a Sweet 16 birthday party in Dadeville, Alabama, which resulted in the greatest casualties of any shooting so far in 2023 with 32 injuries and four fatalities among young people. A sobering milestone for the United States amid inactivity from policymakers might be reached by year’s end if the frightening trend of an average of two mass shootings per day continues.

The finding that the incidence of mass shooting incidents resulting in four or more fatalities or injuries has nearly tripled over the previous ten years is even more concerning. In the United States, there were 272 such incidents in 2014, but by 2020, there were 610. Since then, it has increased. According to this trajectory, the years of President Joe Biden’s administration may have seen the highest number of mass shootings in recent memory.
