Somali Athlete Goes Viral for Her Slow Sprint

A Somali female sprinter has gone viral after she took over 21 seconds to finish the 100-meter race at the World University Games.

Nasra Abukar Ali finished last in the 100-meter race with a ten-second gap between her and the winner.

She was so behind that she was not captured in the frame with the other racers once they took off. In the viral video, she is seen finishing last with a skip after she crosses the finish line.

Somalia’s minister of Youth and Sports has reportedly suspended Somalia’s chairwoman of the athletic federation and will pursue legal action.

According to the minister Mohamed Barre Muhamud, Amina was not an athlete let alone a runner. He further goes on to point out that the chairwoman of the athletic federation had engaged in acts of abuse of power.

Khadijo Aden Dahir, the chairwoman of Athletics Federation, has engaged in acts of abuse of power, nepotism and defaming the face of the nation in the international arena. Furthermore, the ministry, firmly declares its intention to pursue legal action against both the chairman of the Athletics Federation of Somalia and individuals responsible for the falsification of the Somali University Sports Association.

Mohamud said that the performance by Nasra Abukar at the women’s 100-meter race, at the students’ games in Chengdu was embarrassing to Somalia.
