The government has introduced the ‘Mama Pima’ cooking oil dispensing machines in an effort to cut living expenses and empower citizens at the grassroots level.
The ‘Mama Pima’ project was officially launched on August 21, 2023, by Moses Kuria, Cabinet Secretary for Trade and Investment. The project, according to the trade Cabinet Secretary, would be a joint effort by Kenya and Indonesia and will focus on three counties: Homabay, Lamu, and Tharaka Nithi. Speaking during the launch, Moses Kuria said that the venture would provide Kenyans with affordable cooking oil of as low as Ksh. 10.
One liter of oil purchased from the mama pima dispensers will cost from Ksh 185 to Ksh 210, according to the CS. The machines will be placed in residential areas with consideration to provide hustlers with access to edible oil in small quantities depending on their financial situation.
