Dating as a celebrity comes with its challenges, in addition to the ‘normal’ dating challenges. Content creator Winnie Keranta shared some of the challenges she has faced while dating Kenyan comedian, Flaqo.
Keranta and Flaqo having been dating for three years made their relationship public in February this year. During an interview, Keranta shared that dating a fellow celebrity as a celebrity also exposes him to a lot of challenges.
She shared it is difficult for them to do ‘normal’ couple fun stuff out in public because they run the risk of getting it misinterpreted on Kenyan blogs.
“Sometimes public freedom can be a challenge because doing normal fun stuff that normal couples do, might end up on the blogs in a manner that was not intended.”
The content creator went on to add that even though her relationship is public, men still make advances on her. She goes ahead to term those men as hyenas, a Kenyan term used to refer to men who want to date many women in rotation.
“They still hit on me. Those hyenas never tire.”
Keranta shared that going public with their relationship has set them up for public scrutiny. She shared that there are some people who wish them well and the mta achaana tu gang. Keranta shares that for the sanity and well-being of their relationship, they choose to ignore people’s opinions.

She however sends a message to all those who hate her and her relationship with Flaqo.
“To the keyboard warriors, I say keep charging your phone and typing like the warriors you are.”
When asked about how they have maintained a healthy relationship for three years, she gave three-pointers that she said would make a happy relationship. She shares on the importance of trust and communication, making a friend of your partner first, and not comparing your relationship to others.
“Communication and trust is key. Also, make your partner your best friend before anything else. Another thing, do not use other people’s relationships as reference.”
Keranta shares that ever since she rose to fame three years ago, she had a lot of rumors about her. She shares that the most outrageous rumor she heard was that she has a white man as a sponsor.
