Lizzo Faces Backlash Amidst Weight Shaming and Harassment Accusations
Renowned singer and performer, Lizzo, finds herself at the center of a storm after allegations of weight shaming, sexual harassment, and a hostile work environment surfaced from her former dancers.
Ariana Davis and Crystal Williams, the accusers, courageously spoke out one day after filing a lawsuit against the star. Interestingly, two of the girls involved in the lawsuit were once featured in Lizzo’s Emmy-winning reality show, “Watch out for the Big Girls.”

The situation took an unexpected turn when Beyoncé, during her Renaissance Tour in Boston, seemed to show her stance on the matter. In her hit song “Break My Soul,” which pays tribute to phenomenal black women, Beyoncé omitted Lizzo’s name from the mentions. Instead, she repeated Erykah Badu’s name four times, even though Lizzo’s name was displayed on the screen.
I think of what we all mean to people and how cyclical it is. We are all so infinitesimally and maximally connected and significant. It is an honor. Thank You Beyonce.

This exclusion comes as a surprise, considering that back in June 2022, Lizzo had expressed her gratitude on social media for being mentioned by Beyoncé among such esteemed company. “I think of what we all mean to people and how cyclical it is. We are all so infinitesimally and maximally connected and significant. It is an honor. Thank You, Beyoncé,” she wrote at the time.
Adding fuel to the fire, Lizzo’s former documentary director, Sofia Nolly Alison, publicly criticized the singer, labeling her as self-centered, arrogant, and unkind in light of the ongoing lawsuit. Sofia shared her personal experience, revealing that she had traveled with Lizzo in 2019 but left after just two weeks due to what she described as disrespectful treatment.
Reading these reports made me realize how dangerous of a situation it was. This kind of abuse of power happens far too often.

Feeling gaslit and deeply hurt from the experience, Sofia has since healed but hadn’t fully realized the gravity of the situation until the recent reports emerged. “Reading these reports made me realize how dangerous of a situation it was. This kind of abuse of power happens far too often,” she stated.

Adding to the complexity, Lizzo’s documentary, “Love Lizzo,” was released on Max in 2022, though it remains unclear whether Sofia was the original director of the project or not. Regardless, she stressed that validating a black woman’s experience is of utmost importance to her.
The situation surrounding Lizzo is still unfolding, and the public’s response to the accusations and Beyoncé’s apparent stance continues to generate significant attention. As the story develops, many are left wondering about the impact these revelations will have on Lizzo’s career and public perception.
