World Cup Dream Over for Zambia as Spain Secure 5-0 Victory

In a stunning turn of events at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Zambia’s inspiring journey came to an end as they were knocked out of the tournament by a dominant Spain side.

In the Group C encounter, Abelleira scored the fastest goal of the tournament so far (9 minutes in) when she fired a shot from long range into the net.

Four minutes later, Hermoso marked her 100 appearance for Spain with an easy header after Zambia failed to defend a cross from Putellas.

S Banda was on her defensive duties but Spain continued to pass the ball around with ease.

After halftime, Spain was struggling to break Zambia’s defence unlike in the opening 15 minutes.

Eunice Shakala made several saves but was eventually caught off guard by Redondo’s stopper.

Hermoso then grabbed her second and 50 for Spain, making it 4-0.

Late in the game, Redondo scored Spain’s fifth which was awarded after a VAR review.

The full-time whistle shattered the dreams of the Copper Queens and many were in tears.

Despite Zambia’s valiant efforts, Spain’s relentless attack proved too much to handle, resulting in a resounding victory that secured their spot in the last 16.
