Tiktok has been known and accused to have started numerous awful trends that have led to users harming themselves or getting harmed.

Self-care is something that has been promoted of late since the pandemic on TikTok by Gen Z and different ways of achieving self-care. The most recent viral Tiktok trend on self-care is said to be dangerous and toxic.

It is called bed rotting. The phrase describes lying in bed all day thereby rotting.

According to experts, bed rotting may allow you to recharge but too much in bed can disrupt your mood and increase stress. Unlike having a lazy day where you still get to do only fun activities that you like, bed rotting involves being ticked under several blankets with a snack or mobile and being in that position for most of your day.

According to psychologists, someone who lays in bed for more than a day or two indicates they could be having depression, anxiety or other mental health issues, psychologists associate this with avoiding pain, stress or feelings of being awake.

Tiktok bed rotting trend

Bed rotting also has negative effects on your sleep. Psychologists recommend that the bed be used only for sleep and intimacy and that people should not work, use the phone or watch TV in bed.

Professionals suggest if you do not sleep within the first thirty minutes of entering bed or are awake for more than twenty minutes in the middle of the night, you need to spend more time out of your bed.

Those who prefer bed rotting are advised to talk to a therapist to figure out the root cause of why they prefer to stay in bed all day. They are encouraged to try other self-care activities besides bed rotting like journaling, exercising or being with a friend.
