Nonini Threatens to Sue Tuko for Publishing a Defamatory Article

Kenyan rapper Nonini whose real name is Hubert Mbuku Nakitare has threatened to sue news outlet Tuko for publishing an article that he alleges was defamatory.

Taking to his social media pages this morning, Nonini said that the article that was published on July 9 contained false information. The article was authored by Hillary Lisimba and has since been taken down from Tuko’s website.

The statement published by Nonini across his social media alleges that the use of his name and photo in the publishing of the article was intentional and damaging to his reputation. The article said that two women fought at a Kenyan event in Baltimore, Maryland where the rapper performed. The article named the two women as Nonini’s baby mama and girlfriend.

Nonini has decried the use of his name in the article as he has denied knowing either of the two women who engaged in a tussle at the weekend event. He has called out Tuko for publishing the false information saying that it is an act of ‘poor and lazy journalism, a disgrace to the profession’. He has also complained about the effect of the story on his family life and his brand. The artist has affirmed that he is a family-oriented man and the allegations published in the article taint his reputation and that of his brand.

He has demanded that Tuko take down the article and admit that the article defamed Nonini by issuing a public apology. Nonini has threatened to move to court if Tuko ignores his demands. Tuko has not responded to Nonini’s demands regarding the article but has taken down the article from their website and social media platforms.
