FOMO Causing Kenyans to Join the New Threads App

Millions of Kenyans are flocking to the new Threads app due to the Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO). Threads is a social media platform created by Meta, which is owned by Mark Zuckerburg, to rival Elon Musk’s Twitter.

It has recorded over 10 million users in just a few hours of its launch and Kenyans are already seeking to dominate the platform. Kenyans are wondering whether there will still be KOT( Kenyans on Threads) just like there was, KOT (Kenyans on Twitter)

Threads App

Throughout history, FOMO has forced or driven most Kenyans into considering things they never would have. Such as watching graphic videos that are trending or participating in impossible or ridiculous challenges they know they shouldn’t.

Additionally, many Kenyans flock to Threads out of curiosity about how it differs from Twitter. In addition to this, a few thread users have commented on how difficult a decision it would be to choose between Threads and Twitter when it comes to scrolling down the page before going to bed.

Other users on the thread show concern about how tiresome it will be to manage all the social media applications that keep coming up by the day.

Threads joins a growing list of platforms, including Bluesky, Spill, and Mastodon, seeking to challenge Twitter’s dominance in the microblogging sphere. One notable distinction from Twitter is that Threads allows posts of up to 500 characters, compared to Twitter’s 280-character limit. Additionally, users can share videos up to five minutes long and post links to their content on other platforms. The app also provides options to unfollow, block, restrict, or report other users, as well as filter out replies containing specific words.
