Curing Depression: It’s The Soul That Needs Surgery

Mental health and safe care are the most popular gospels being preached around curing depression. Almost every article ever written on depression, suggests practices such as seeing a therapist and self-love as milestones towards battling depression. However, depression still remains a silent killer. Could it be that this menace has no cure?

One thing most people seem to forget is, that when going through depression, one is wholly immersed in the horrifying journey. The body, mind, and soul all go down that road. One never leaves the other behind. Practices that improve mental health and enhance safe care have proven to be effective. However, these practices put more emphasis on healing the mind and the body. Leaving the soul behind.

The soul is a complex entity that boasts of a multitude of definitions and interpretations. In relation to human beings, the soul can be defined as the humanity that makes us feel emotions. The soul is the immaterial part of a man which houses human personality, intellect, will, and emotions. It is also regarded as an entity that survives the body after death. With this understanding, it is arguable that depression not only alters a person’s physical and mental form but also their spiritual form.

To fully cure depression, one also has to heal their soul. This means, engaging in activities that will restore or improve their personalities, will, emotions, and intellect. It is important to note that depression alters all these aspects in a human being. The mind only strives to interpret and execute what the soul feeds it. This is why, the soul can guide the mind, but the mind can never guide the soul.

It is said that it is difficult to heal in the same environment that hurt you. However, at times, the environment may be internal, but running away from oneself has always proven to be futile. Moving away from the heat does not automatically heal the wounds caused by the fire. Equally important, mental health and self-care practices only heal the surfaces of the wound. Compare it to plastic surgery.

All in all, it doesn’t matter the amount of “plastic surgeries” one undergoes. Eventually, unless one dissects into their intellect and emotions, one can never truly alter the personality or nature one acquired during depression. The soul also needs improvement as much as the mind and body. Mental health aims to change one’s reactions, attitude, and thinking. Self-care aims at enhancing one’s mental and physical strength.

Soul surgery targets getting rid of the cancer, which is depression and not concealing or tolerating it. For one to fully alter who they are, one has to go deep into the very core of their existence. Every human being boils down to their soul. This is why, above all, a man is defined by their character, beliefs, reasoning, and feelings. Rehabilitating these four aspects, as well as practicing self-care and mental wellness is the truest form of curing depression.
