Bishop O.C Allen and Rashad Burgess Renew Vows After 20 Years of Marriage

Bishop O.C Allen and Rashad Burgess embarked on their journey of love 20 years ago.

The love birds first met during their college years, drawn together by their shared passions for community service and social justice.

Allen, who is a senior pastor and founder of Vision Cathedral and CEO of iElevate+TV, and Burgess, who is vice president for advancing health and Black equity at Gilead Sciences are based in the US and are prominent in the black LBTQ+ community.

But two decades ago, before same-sex marriage was legal or considered a norm as is now, the happy couple secretly married in a “private sunrise ceremony” by the ocean.

Two decades later, they celebrated their enduring bond with a joyous vow renewal ceremony.

In front of 600 guests and their two children, Joshua, 11, and Cylee, 10, they exchanged “I dos” on Sunday, July 16, at The Whitley in Atlanta, as reported by People.

Allen opened Vision Cathedral Atlanta three years after their marriage as a safe space for the black LGBTQ community.

“We’ve never gotten in the way of each other’s success,” said Allen.

Reflecting on the love the couple has shared over the years, Allen credited humour and communication among the many elements that have fueled their marriage.
