Why Most Gen-Zs Give Up On Life Easily

A lot has been said about the laziness of gen-Zs and their lack of
tolerance and resilience, especially, in relation to work spaces and
mental abilities. Answers as to why Gen-Zs seem to be more tech
savvy than ‘life savvy’ may lie in the period in which they were born.

Technology

While millennials were brought up in an era of limited technology,
gen-Zs were born into a more advanced and on-the-go technology.
Technology has consequently hindered most people from this
generation from making real connections with the real world. This has
made it difficult for most gen-Zs to acquire basic life hacks that
computers cannot provide. Small acts such as spending quality time
with loved ones and opening up, can go a long way in reducing
chances of one falling into depression. On the contrary, most gen-Zs, will resort into isolating and burying themselves in the internet, when faced with challenging situations.

Economy

Millennials have felt stronger economic times compared to gen-Zs.
Gen-Zs, on the other hand, were born in times of great recession.
A recession is a significant, widespread and prolonged downturn in
economic activity. This in turn affects economic output, employment
rate and trends in consumer spending. Therefore, it is for these
reasons, that gen-Zs not only have a hard time in finding employment,
but also in creating one for themselves. Hence, a generation that was
raised with the ‘hard work pays’ kind of mentality, find it confusing
when they hit the real world. In reality, they realize that their hard work
throughout school might not pay after all.

A good example is that of the Mount Kenya University graduate. The
middle-aged young man burnt his academic documents out of
frustration due to his inability to secure employment.

Social Justice

Most gen-Zs seem to be more concerned about social justice
compared to most millennials. A responsibility that seems to render them overwhelmed. Compared to millennials, gen-Zs are a generation that is very vocal about economic, political and social rights and opportunities to
everyone. Seen as a weaker and inferior generation, that does not
qualify to speak on such issues, most of their plights and demands for
social justice go unanswered. Leaving most gen-Zs unhappy, unmotivated,
dissatisfied and exhausted with life.
