The President of Uganda Urges Reconciliation as Sudan’s Conflict Escalates

The conflict between government forces and the paramilitary group, Rapid Support Forces, has ravaged the nation for over six weeks, resulting in a staggering displacement of nearly 1.4 million people, according to the United Nations.

Efforts to quell the violence and bring an end to the crisis have proven futile thus far, with intense clashes persisting in cities like Kato and others. The situation took a concerning turn when Sudan’s army suspended its participation in talks concerning ceasefire agreements and humanitarian aid.

Amid this dire backdrop, President Yo and Sudan’s Deputy Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Magar, recently met to discuss the urgent need for peace in the region. President Museveni, serving as the Chairman of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, emphasized the importance of opposing factions reaching a common position through a democratic process.

The suspension of talks by Sudan’s army has sparked worries about the future trajectory of the conflict and the worsening humanitarian situation.
