There is no doubt that one of Shaggy’s iconic and most recognized songs is ‘It Wasn’t Me’. The 2000 hit song is believed to be about cheating.

Because of the song, many people assume Shaggy is a player despite the fact that he has been married to Rebecca Parker for almost 10 years.

In an interview with People Magazine the rapper said: ” It is a common misconception with that song as a cheating song. It’s an anti-cheating song. It’s just that nobody listened to the record to the end.”

Shaggy further explains that there’s a part in the record where two people are having a conversation. “A guy who is me at that time says give bad advice like, bro, how could you get caught? Just tell her, ‘It wasn’t me’, and then at the end, the guy says, ‘I’m going to tell her that I’m sorry for the pain that I’ve caused.”

I’ve been listening to your reasoning, it makes no sense at all. Going to tell her that I’m sorry for the pain that I’ve caused. You might think that you’re a player, but you’re completely lost.”

Shaggy concludes by saying that nobody cares to listen to the conversation part which puts a context to what the song is about.

Shaggy is a veteran of the rap industry. He has a Grammy award for Best Reggae Album in 2006 and 2018. He also won a Brit award for Best International Male Solo Artist in 2002.

While some of his classics like ‘Boombastic’ and ‘Angel’ are from the late 1990s and early 2000s, Shaggy hopes to gain more fans in his latest tour.

The tour officially kicked off on Thursday 1 June where the 54-year-old will be joined by the likes of Sean Kingston, TLC and En Vogue.
