A funeral service in South Mugirango, Kisii, turned chaotic when supporters of Governors Simba Arati clashed with supporters of MP Sylvanus Osoro.
Trouble began to brew after County Assembly Speaker Philip Nyanumba skipped the area MP and invited Governor Arati to address the mourners.
As the speaker introduced the governor, Hon Sylvanus supporters sparked outrage over claims that there was a plan to deny him a chance to speak.
A rowdy crowd of youths accompanied by Osoro began approaching the governor to express their concerns.
Hell broke loose when the youths started attacking the mourners and everyone was scampering for safety.
As security whisked away the two leaders, the Governor’s car was vandalized in the commotion. This forced the funeral to come to an abrupt end.
The two leaders were attending the burial of Dishon Ayiema, father to Boikanga MCA Paul Okombo.
A similar altercation was witnessed on February 1, 2021, during a burial ceremony in Bonachoge. Hon Arati and Osoro exchanged blows in the presence of ODM leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto.
