Benson Omalla K’ogalo top shooter is ready for the CAF-Champions League Challenge

Gor Mahia striker Benson Omalla is now focused on continental football after the club qualified for CAF-Champions League football-lifting their 20th League.

K’Ogalo managed a slot to the championship courtesy of a 20th league title triumph on Sunday, after beating Nairobi City Stars 4-1 at Kasarani Stadium.

However, Omalla, who bagged 26 league goals as Gor bagged the FKF-PL title, is of the view that the competition will offer him an opportunity to shine in Africa and catch the attention of clubs in Europe.

Striker Benson Omalla is the real deal

On Monday at a luncheon organized by Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and the Digital Economy Eliud Owalo, at a city hotel, Omalla said he believes that the Caf Champions League will play a great role in exposing players to the international market.

“As a striker I can say that I have had a very successful season whereby I managed to score 26 goals and I thank the technical bench for entrusting me in that role. It’s always a dream for any player to play in the Champions League and I want to work extra hard because you never know it may open more opportunities to play in big clubs.

The league, at large, has also given players opportunity to nurture their talents and I was very impressed by the level of competition. I think Kenya has plenty of strikers and in near future, national team coach will have many options,” he enthused.

Astonishingly, Omalla was the second-best scorer in the ended campaign, behind Kenya Police FC forward Elvis Rupia who notched 27 goals.

Meanwhile, the club got a massive boost Monday when by were awarded KSh3 million by CS Owalo, as an appreciation for winning the FKF Premier League title.

Owalo challenged the club’s leadership to put in place structures to enable the team to realize much-needed growth.

Out of the KSh3 million awarded, KSh 1 million went to the playing unit, a similar amount to the management,  KSh 500,000 to the technical bench, KSh 200, 000 to the team’s drivers and a further 300,000 to the team’s security team.
