Pep Guardiola on which of his Man City players will make a good manager

Without a doubt, the Manchester City squad which has just won the premier league is one of the best teams in the world. Some people have even compared them with the Barcelona 2011 squad.

Pep Guardiola has suggested that IIkay Gundogan is the likeliest member of his team to follow in his footsteps and become a football manager.

”Gundogan is smart, thinks about the game, is selfless and does what he has to,” said Pep in an interview.

Pep has seen a number of his players become managers like Vincent Kompany at Burnley. Thierry Henry has been the head coach at AS Monaco and CF Montreal (formerly known as the Montréal Impact) and an assistant coach with Belgium, most recently at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 51-year-old Spaniard believes that players in the centre have the best chances to become managers. “But I think midfield players have the chance to be managers I think that players who think about the game as football as a global game, not just think ‘me, me, me’.

Gundogan has hinted before that he will test himself as a coach after his playing career. The German midfielder has worked under Guardiola, Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel and thinks that he has accumulated vast knowledge from the three. “The fact is that with Pep, Klopp and Thomas Tuchel, I’ve had pretty much the best coaches in club football so far,” said Gundogan.

The city captain was the first signing for Pep at the Etihad. He has been an integral part of the city squad and is in his best form under Pep Guardiola. Manchester City has completed a three-year dominance across all premier league categories and now has eyes on the Champions League and the FA Cup.
