In a landmark moment for futuristic transportation, the world’s first flying bike has finally hit the market in Japan. The XTURISMO luxury air cruiser is being hailed as a remarkable technical marvel as it fits the fictional world.

The bike is 12 feet long and weighs 661 pounds, and has been named a finalist in the 2023 Edison Awards. It is equipped with two large central rotors that draw power from a 228-horsepower Kawasaki motor running on gas.

The machine, priced at Ksh 77.7 million (£465,000) and offered in red, blue, and black colour options, has the capability to remain in the air for 40 minutes, and can safely land on landing skids.

Aerwins, the manufacturer of the vehicle, describes the experience of riding it as “an emotional experience that moves you.”

The bike’s unique design features two large rotors on either side of the vehicle, which are used to generate lift and keep the bike airborne.

At least one buyer has already been reported, with Japanese entrepreneur Yoshiyuki Aikawa placing an order for the flying bike.

The company is promoting the vehicle as a useful tool for rescue workers, infrastructure inspection, as well as a captivating showpiece for public entertainment.

“Imagine a world where humans have free reign over the skies. Surely, life would be more free!” the company said.

“Expand your ideas about transport, experience the world like never before Pioneer the next generation of transport. XTURISMO was created with this in mind. A new journey begins.”

Currently, it is known that the flying bike will only be permitted for riding on a racetrack that is closed-off. However, the company is optimistic that regulations will eventually permit more unrestricted flying opportunities in the future.

Whether or not the XTURISMO represents the beginning of a new era of transportation remains to be seen. However, one thing is for certain – the flying bike has certainly captured the imagination of the public and is bringing science fiction to life in a truly remarkable way.
