Asensio’s goal in the 42nd minute came from their first shot on target, while Militao’s headed second effectively ended the game as a contest early in the second period.

However, two rounds ago, Barcelona could have gone ahead by as many as 15 points before it was held to the first of two consecutive draws that have allowed Madrid to breathe a little bit of life into its nearly hopeless title defence.
