Forbes Africa: 50 Fearless and Inspiring Women over 50

Forbes Africa has published its first-ever list of 50 women over the age of 50 who continue to inspire and make a difference in various fields across the African continent.

These women have not allowed age or retirement to stop them from breaking barriers and making a positive impact on society. From businesswomen to technocrats, founders, and C-suite executives, these women have taken up spaces in their respective fields and beyond, ensuring that others have a voice.

Kenya has seven representatives on the list namely; Chief Justice Martha Koome, veteran politicians Zipporah Kittony, Grace Onyango, Anchor Relationship Network Founder and CEO Jennifer Karina, Melvin Marsh International Founder and CEO Flora Mutahi, Veteran Women’s Rights Campaigner Dr Jennifer Riria, Presiding Judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch.

According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2022, the gender gap globally has been closed by 68.1%, but it will take another 132 years to achieve full parity at the current rate of progress.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) in its Empowering African Women report states that women on the continent are “more economically active as farmers and entrepreneurs than women in any other region of the world. It is the women who grow most of Africa’s food, and who own one-third of all businesses”.
