The Hotline Bling and Started from the Bottom hitmaker has jinxed Argentina through the ‘Drake Curse’. The infamous internet theory suggests that rapper Drake is behind the downfall of several top sports teams and athletes. It is believed that once he is spotted with a sports star or with a sports team jersey, then bad luck will most likely befall them.

In a video posted on Social Media with a friend, Drake (in a Napoli jersey) said, “I’ll take Argentina, he’ll take France. That will be a vibe.”

The Drake Curse started creating a buzz online in 2013 when Drake backed the Toronto Raptors as a global ambassador only for them to gain a reputation as big-game bottlers.

Outcomes linked to the ‘Drake Curse’ include Serena Williams losing in the semifinal of the 2015 U.S. Open, the Miami Heat falling to San Antonio in the NBA Finals in 2014, and Conor McGregor losing to Khabib Nurmagodov in 2018.

Other notable victims of the ‘Drake Curse’ include Paul Pogba at Manchester United, Wilfried Saha at Crystal Palace, PSG (thrashed 5-1 by Lille), and Conor McGregor who was beaten by Khabib in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

FC Barcelona also lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in the El Classico in November after playing in limited-edition OVO-labeled jerseys for the fixture. The 2022 Qatar World Cup has had a taste of the ‘Drake Curse’ when Canada lost 1-0 to an under-performing Belgium team, despite dominating the fixture with 22 shots to Belgium’s 9. Alphonso Davies missed a penalty early in the game.
