UK’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has finally decided to attend the COP27 summit in Egypt Sharm el-Sheikh, despite the heat of politics around the energy summit.

The decision was concluded after an enormous conference that lasted for hours was held to determine how every country could work together to curb Climate Change.

However, UK’s politics got COP26-branded political energy at the last year’s summit.

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson took the issue seriously during CPOP26 Summit, with a desire to manage climate change and for the UK in the Clean Energy frontline to play a prominent role.

The Conservative Party threw in Political grumbles, which did not perform due to the political pressure from the top to initiate Clean Energy prioritization.

However, the UK’s desire to be at the forefront of tackling climate change failed.

This week’s COP27 summit held in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh is likely to attract both developed and third-world countries, as poor nations are pockmarked against the rich nations who have kept their promises on the financial commitments made in Glasgow.

Uk’s commitment is quite unknown even as Rishi Sunak finally decides to take part in COP27, as the Britons’ perception in the last few weeks was pessimistic as there has been an argument against Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s attendance at COP27.

Since Sunak’s appointment, the economy has maintained a bad shape, as most Britons think the COP27 Climate Summit is not suitable to tackle the fallen economy, saying it’s not a good use of important people’s time.

On the other hand, the UK needs to show personal commitment and interest in Green Energy, as well as good opportunities to mingle with other world leaders.

Sunak’s changing mind on whether to participate in the Climate Forum has sent a different message to most Britons as one climate expert noted that,
“The Sunak flip-flop doesn’t demonstrate the level of leadership Johnson had.”

Considering the Prime Minister’s wavering decisions on Climate matters, there are signs that climate change has moved down the agenda since last year.

During COP26 chief Alok Sharma was averted from the cabinet in the last few weeks which signaled, intentionally that the new administration is not concerned about the issue.

In Liz’s shortest time in office, she tabled plans for 130 new oil and gas licenses. Unfortunately, her tenure in No 10 was too short to ratify any.

Sunak noted few days ago that, “there is no long-term prosperity without action on climate change”. But there are doubts about his stance.

“Sunak’s (will he, won’t he) attend the Climate forum, sent a message around the world with his hokey-cokey on attending COP that the UK is out of the climate leadership business… the world desperately needs climate leaders – but it’s not going to come from Rishi Sunak”. One Labour source said.

More diplomatically, Claire O’Neill – the former MP and energy minister who was partly responsible for the UK becoming the COP president last year reported that the UK is “playing defense, not offense”.

As Sunak is yet to give a speech at the COP27, his approach on Climate Change is likely to come under attack.
