Dua Lipa on Why She didn’t Perform in the World Cup Opening Ceremony

Dua Lipa addressed the rumors about her performing in the Qatar World Cup opening ceremony. Her reason for not performing is that Qatar as a country has not fully fulfilled all the human rights pledges.

She said that she will be cheering for England from afar. Dua Lipa informed her fans about this through a statement she posted on her Instagram account.

“I will not be performing and nor have I ever been involved in any negotiation to perform. “I will be cheering England on from afar and I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup.”Dua Lipa wrote on Instagram.

Qatar is known to be a conservative country hence LGBTQ+ is not practiced or not condoned in the country. If one is found involved with this they may receive a hefty and severe punishment. According to Give me Sports Qatar has also been condemned for the way they treat migrant workers who assisted in building the stadiums and other various infrastructures that will be used for the tournament.

Some netizens supported Dua Lipa’s decision and commended her for her actions. However, others thought that she was being a hypocrite for she has performed in some countries that forbid and condemn Homosexuality. Some people voiced their opinion on Twitter saying that even though the USA does not observe some of the human rights she still purpose to perform in the USA.

Others concluded that she was only doing this to receive publicity and get public attention. Some netizens so that the main point of the event was a football competition between various countries and that what she was doing will not make a difference.
