Babu Tale is yet to pay an 11-year debt that is amounting to approximately Ksh13 million ( Tsh250 million.) and might end up behind bars if he does not attempt to clear this debt.
In 2018 Babu Tale narrowly escaped going to jail after agreeing to pay the debt as he was ordered by the court. He was found guilty of Plagiarism after he was accused by Sheikh Hashim Mbonde of using his religious video clips for commercial use in 2013.
It said that Babu Tale’s entertainment and events company, which he partly owns with his brother Iddi used his recorded religious video clips to promote his business without Sheikh Hashim’s permission. Babu Tale was neglectful of the cleric’s intellectual property rights.
On February 18th, 2016, Babu Tale was found guilty of using Sheikh Hashim’s videos for commercial gain through his company Tiptop. The ruling was decided after 3 years of legal litigation however Babu Tale ignored the court’s ruling. Babu Tale was ordered by Judge Augustine Shangwa repeatedly to pay the 250 million Tanzanian shillings to Sheikh Hashim but he did not heed the judge’s orders and eventually after six years an arrest warrant was issued for Babu Tale.

He was arrested for contempt of court and detained at the central police post in Dar-es-salaam before being arraigned in court. To date, Babu Tale has not paid a dime and Sheikh Hashim has filed a new case asking the court to arrest Babu Tale for not paying him what he owes.
This was done After the high court concurred with the decision made by the junior court on August 17. Babu Tale was unsatisfied with this decision and decided to take the case to the Court of Appeal. However, the Court of Appeal denied his requests.
