Anthony Mwaura sworn in as the chairperson of KRA

At a ceremony held in the Supreme Court building, Anthony Ng’ang’a Mwaura was sworn in as the head of Kenya Revenue Authority.

Mwaura is supposed to appoint other board members as the tenure of the Head of Civil Servants Francis Muthaura, who was appointed by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in October 2019, elapsed.

The President designated Mwaura as the KRA board’s chair through a gazette notice dated November 18. Treasury CS Njuguna Ndungu is anticipated to pick the remaining board members.

In the August elections, Mwaura served as the chairperson of the United Democratic Alliance Party’s national elections board. He is involved in a court battle with the Assets Recovery Agency, which was successful in getting orders to freeze his assets, which are worth millions of shillings.

Mwaura is a co-director of Toddy Civil Engineering, which, together with Hardi Enterprises, is linked to the corruption scandal involving KES 357 million at the Nairobi County government during the administration of former governor Mike Sonko.

On the same gazette notice, other people were also appointed Including Hamisi Mashobo Mwaguya to be the Chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Maritime Authority, David Wamatsi Omusotsi to be the Chairperson of the Council of Kenya Utalii College, James Waore Dianga to be the Chairperson of the Lake Basin Development Authority, Joseph Kiptoo Kasaon to be the Chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Meat and Jackson Tuei to be the Chairperson of the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund Oversight Board.

Mwaura will serve for three years as the chair of the board.
