Many Kenyan youths blatantly say that they do not want to get married for fear of working too hard and losing their independence.
Marriage. Such a nice thing. Most people see themselves in wedding gowns and a banquet of flowers, walking down the aisle. Well, tuxedos and 3 piece suits for men. But not Generation Z babies. “marriage is too much work,” someone said. And while this seems to be a popular opinion among today’s youth, you will be surprised that half of them have genuine reasons why they do not want to be Mrs. Kinuthia. For starters:
Past experiences with failed relationships
This is probably a deal breaker for many youths. Please, Jennifer has passed through a million Pharaohs before she can get to her Moses, she is now saying enough is enough!
Failed parents’ marriage
If you do a quick survey, you will discover that many young people originate from single-parent families. Chances are if my parents’ marriage failed, so will mine therefore I’d rather not waste my time trying in said department.

It’s an independence thing!
Correct me if I am wrong, but many young people are rooting for freedom; to be sexually aware and do whatever the heck they want. So you can imagine James getting married and now he suddenly has a 10 pm curfew. Sorry! Cannot be him! So the whole marriage debate is out of the question.
Ultimately, there is a fear of marriage(gamophobia) among young people. Do not be surprised if your son comes home saying he is not into marriage and there you are expecting five grandkids by December next year!
