Speaking during the official opening event on Tuesday, October 18, KURA Deputy Director Emdelina Eustas clarified that the link road was critical to reducing the crime rate in the entire Kibera area at large.
“Significantly, the travelling time has greatly reduced within five minutes to reach the connected two roads. It has also spurred development in the area,” she said in a statement.
“The residence around the area can feel free to move where they want as we have provided infrastructures such as walkways and street lights,” she stated.
The modern bypass has special features to use in the travelling procedures from one point to another.
Kibra – Southern bypass interchange was simply designed for dual carriageways with service roads and underpasses. It magnificently contains; bus bays, bridges, overpasses, pedestrian bridges, and footpaths.
The bypass has a four-lane, two-way dual carriageway road that is 7.5 meters wide with 2 meters of verges between the curb and the open side drains.
Furthermore, the Kibra- Southern Bypass Interchange also has slip roads linking to the Southern Bypass interchange, acceleration, and deceleration lanes in an arranged manner.
In order to improve the security of motorists, the road is modern and fitted with guard rails and street lights as well.
On the other hand, the work activities on the road started in September 2020 despite getting opposition from some residents in the Kibra area including traders who were evicted to pave the way for the road construction.
Additionally, together with the Nairobi Expressway and T-Mall flyover, the road is key to helping reduce the travelling time in the town of Nairobi.
Finally, there are also the identified plans to install smart CCTV cameras to help in controlling and monitor the movement of cars and people at large in the city.
