Google trends in Kenya show that in the past week users searching for Diwali have grown by nearly 100% with the mostly searched query being: Is Monday a public holiday in Kenya?
Diwali will be on Monday, October,24,2022 whereby the Hindu community will be celebrating.
Over the past week, netizens have been on the lookout for whether the country will also observe the day as a public holiday.
According to Google Trends, most people have shown interest in wanting to know whether this Hindu celebration will be declared a public holiday in Kenya.
“In a statement on Twitter, the Ministry of Interior confirmed that the gazette notice circulating on social media was fake.”
Despite it not being gazetted, the Hindu Community mark this celebration and it’s an important festival to them.
The celebrations last to about a week and are normally celebrated by millions of Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs worldwide.
Diwali celebration name was derived from two terms that are, “Avali” which means row and “Deepa” which means clay lamps.

When merged these two terms mean a “row of lights”. From the origin of the name lights are a symbol of this festival and Indians go overboard with fireworks and candles to fuel the inner light that spiritually protects them from the darkness.
