President William Ruto has addressed the controversial idea of welcoming his rival in the August 9 Polls Elections Raila Odinga into the government to work with him on making Kenya better for the citizens.
The president responded by turning down the handshake deal of sharing the government saying that the handshake would be a ‘biggest fraud on the people of Kenya’ and hence stands no chance in his administration.
According to the president, the handshake deal with the Azimio One Kenya Coalition Party would be striping off the essentiality of having an opposition government in place as it weakens it the more.
“It is not for me to choose it is for Kenyans and as the President I would deploy all the resources that we have for the good of the country. And if Raila Odinga came by I would find something for him to do but not in the handshake arrangement, that one I ruled out a long time ago, we want to have a functional government,” Ruto told BBC on Monday.
Further revealing a readiness to work with Raila in case he shows interest to do the will of the people of Kenya as he is solely dedicated to bettering the situation that Kenyans are facing.
Admitting that he would be glad to work with Raila as well as his former boss Uhuru Kenyatta who have been Kenyan leaders and statesmen whom he visualizes as compatriots.
“Today I speak to Uhuru Kenyatta as our former president. I speak to Raila for your information. I speak to them. They are leaders in our country. We have a country to look after and we are not enemies, we were competitors, we are compatriots. Whether you are in the Executive as a president like me or opposition like Raila and his troops, we are serving the same country,” Ruto said.
This leaves the chance of Raila working with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance relatively high with a common goal of ensuring service delivery as they keep the ruling party on its toes in accomplishing the projects and set goals.
