President Uhuru Kenyatta Speaks After Alarming Silence

President Uhuru Kenyatta speaks after silence

H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta came out to address the nation after the Supreme Court delivered its verdict on the petition against the Election results announced on 15th August.

This comes as a victory for Kenya Kwanza after Deputy President William Ruto’s victory was upheld despite having been petitioned by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.

The president aired his views on the whole electoral process as he further congratulated the elected leaders urging them to do their work with diligence and in a visionary manner as he embraced the Courts decision to uphold the win.

“Today the Supreme Court made a ruling on the presidential dispute, upholding the results announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on August 15, 2022. And in keeping to the pledge that I made to uphold the rule of law when I took the oath of office, I commit to executing the orders of this court to the letter,” said the president.

Emphasizing that the handing over and swearing-in ceremony are to go smoothly as planned by the Assumption of Office Committee, disputing all claims of there being a possibility of any scuffle in undergoing the process.

“Indeed it is my intention to oversee a smooth transition to the next administration and all the necessary orders to facilitate this process have already been issued. Hence the Assumption of Office Committee has already begun the process of transition as they set everything in order to oversee it,” remarked H.E Uhuru.

The president further spoke on the need to uphold rule of law as mandatory telling that it’s the responsibility of every citizen as they ensure that leaders are in check and democracy followed to the latter.

“I urge the country to respect the institutions that midwife our new leaders. And in doing so, I also urge citizens to constantly put them under scrutiny. For this is the civic duty of every single Kenyan. In particular, this civic duty requires every citizen to constantly put the truth presented by our constitutional institutions to the test. And they must test them for coherence but also for correspondence,” he added.

In conclusion, the president thanked Kenyans for their conduct during the whole electioneering period that saw a free and fair process done to the latter.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank every single Kenyan for holding a peaceful election. And for this, I want to thank God and I want to thank our political parties. But I also want to thank every single individual Kenyan for bringing us thus far. I want to wish well all who have won as they guide our country into the future. And I thank you all for the opportunity to serve. And I say, may God bless you all and may God bless this great Republic of Kenya,” said Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta.
