Peter recalled his campaign struggles, saying that his accounts were depleted during the popularization of his candidacy, just before the August 9 elections.

During an interview with Citizen TV, the first-time MP stated that his campaigns were mostly bankrolled by friends, with assistance from Defence Cabinet Secretary, Eugene Wamalwa.

He was elected on a Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) ticket, but he claims he was approached first by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

He did not, however, deny that his path to politics was not easy, recalling losing the majority of seats he ran for, while still in university.

“Hii dream, nikiwa campus, Egerton University, nilikuwa student mzuri sana. Nakumbuka nikismama kama direct academics, nikaanguka kura. I was a fresher. I was number last, It was so painful by the way. Everyone was telling me “we are going to vote for you.” But when it came, I was number last,

“In third year, I decided to go for the vice chairman, now the bigger seat. And by that time I didn’t have money. I was a good student and by the time I was living, everyone was telling me to go vie for MP,” he continued.

His first job after graduation was selling bicycles in Kakamega in 2014, where he was encouraged to run for the MCA seat, but time passed till he now expressed interest in the MP seat.

He had always wanted to be a pastor or a leader, and his determination and hard work earned him the MP seat.
