Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has in response to the petition by the Farmers Party in parliament for the removal of the four IEBC Commissioners defended them terming it a witch hunt.
The four commissioners led by vice chair Juliana Cherera, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyang’aya distanced themselves from the presidential results during the tallying of the General Election, terming them opaque.
The issue saw a rift created amongst the seven commissioners in the electoral board hence the elections petitions that thereby followed.
Farmers Party, a member of the Kenyan Kwanza Alliance filed a petition at the National Assembly seeking the commissioners’ removal from office.
“Farmers Party has presented to the National Assembly a petition for the removal of 4 commissioners of IEBC following the attempt by the said commissioners to sabotage an election process as witnessed on August 15, 2022, at Bomas of Kenya,” read the statement by the Farmers Party.
Kalonzo Musyoka has said that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance will stand in defence of the four ‘rebel’ IEBC Commissioners against any confrontations or removal from office attempts.
Kalonzo further called on President Ruto and his allies to leave the four alone terming the matter as a non-issue that is in the past, and that removal from work will be denying them their rights.
“We totally condemn this brazen act of witch hunt and demand that the President and his agents leave those officers alone. On our part we commit to doing whatever it takes to protect those officers from any attempts to fringe their basic rights,” Kalonzo said.
This comes weeks after Garissa Township Member of Parliament Aden Duale had hinted at the need for the four IEBC Commissioners to be held accountable for what he termed as leading the nation to a dark moment.
Owing to the fact that the four filed affidavits at the Supreme Court of Kenya asking the apex court to nullify the August 9, elections.
