Four IEBC Commissioners Support  Supreme Court’s Decision

Four IEBC Commissioners Support Supreme Court's verdict

Four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners led by Vice Chair Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang’aya, Francis Wanderi, and Irene Masit have announced their support for the Supreme Court ruling. The Four IEBC commissioners urged for peace and respect of the court’s ruling.

“After the Supreme Court of Kenya made her ruling yesterday the 5th of September,2022 on the Presidential election petition, particularly with regard to our role as Commissioners, we wish to convey our appreciation to the Honorable Judges of the Supreme Court of Kenya and confirm that we respect their collective decisions,” a statement from the commissioners said.

The four have supported a statement issued by the IEBC Chairperson Chebukati that called for respect and upholding of the law as the Supreme Court upheld William Ruto’s win.

“We wish to reiterate that we stand by rule of Law and Statutes that promote the effectiveness of the work of the Commission,” the statement by the four commissioners read.

Chebukati addressing the IEBC on Monday remarked that the four were still part of the electoral commission and it would be their choice as to what they will do onwards.

“As a commission, we followed the law, and it’s up to them and their conscience on what they wanted to do going forward. We have not chased away anyone,” Chebukati stated.

Revealed a more relaxed and calm Chairperson than ever seen as he remarked on the weight lifted from his shoulders after the Supreme Court vindicated his commission and himself.
