Cleophas Malala was declared a wanted man by the actions of the officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who raided his home declaring a manhunt for the former senator.
An issue that has sparked mixed reactions amongst the people of Kenya and his family. Malala’s mother encountered the police asking why they had to break into the home despite being told the former governor aspirant wasn’t around.
A move that his mother Martha Malala opined to be sinister and with an ill motive alluding that her son was defeated in the contest for the gubernatorial race of Kakamega County and had conceded defeat to his opponent Fernandez Barasa.
According to the DCI reports, Malala was involved in acts that were not legally allowed during the postponed August 29th elections of the Kakamega county.
The former aspirant for Kakamega governorship’s legal team in response asked the DCI officers what they sought the politician for having not offered a privy to the orders hence a lack of clarity on the issue for his arrest nor a warrant.
“I have not seen any arrest warrant. What we are sure of is that this witchhunt arises from the elections that have just been carried out which we feel is a bit unfair. “We seem to be the only ones who have been targeted. But we are still sorting this out as a legal team and we may not say anything that may go on record at this time,” Grace Mburu, the legal team representative addressed the media.
Further Mburu added that the solemn move to ensure that Malala’s children are safe despite the attempted break-in by the officers at his home.
In response, Malala’s mother insisted that she is ready to be taken in on behalf of her son whom she says has no fault whatsoever regarding the election done earlier this week.
“We learned that the police were here when we were at home. Cleo is young and he has a long way to go. Why do they want to arrest my son? As a mother I cannot stand this kind of intimidation,” she demanded to know what charges her son was guilty of.
Emphasizing the need for the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza heads to intervene in the matter saying that the attacks politically influenced will only cause more division amongst the people.
Urging a need for straightforwardness in dealing with such an issue since her son went ahead to concede the defeat of his counterpart in the race who won the gubernatorial race.
“I congratulate the governor-elect, Fernandes Barasa, and his team. The win is deserved and indisputable. I also laud IEBC for conducting free, fair, credible, and verifiable elections. There is no vote that was rigged and I thank IEBC for doing a good job,” Malala stated.
Malala who ran on the Amani National Congress (ANC) accepted defeat after having garnered 159, 508 votes hence coming in second place after Fernandez Barasa on an ODM ticket who garnered 192,929 votes.
