It was not by chance or coincidence, but it was just meant to be. These are the thoughts of NTV news anchor Smriti Vidyarthi on why she and her co-host Mark Masai make the ideal news anchor combo.
Smriti has mentioned that she and Masai normally discuss the colors of their on-air outfit before appearing on live. But one day, her co-host forgot to tell her what colors he was going to wear.
She then decided to wear any color she wanted, and she went with peach. Masai, to her astonishment, also appeared wearing the same colors without their having discussed it.
“Whenever we’re anchoring together, we always discuss our wardrobe colours beforehand, to ensure we don’t clash terribly. Yesterday, @mark_masai was meant to get back to me about his colours, but forgot. I decided to wear whatever I wanted to, and said to myself “if he happens to have any peach in his outfit, then we are definitely meant to be partners” – Lo and behold; peach dress, peach shirt, peach tie. MEANT TO BE – or maybe just coincidence 😂 But the true story is that when we saw each other, we 😂👊🏽🫂 and concluded that we are just meant-to-be partners on 📺,” Smriti narrated.
Many of their followers have expressed concerns about their on-air chemistry. During the peak of Covid-19 in the country in 2020, Smriti said how she was forced to stop reading the news with Masai after being assigned to different shifts.

She said she hadn’t seen her co-anchor in four months. She used to embrace him every day when she arrived at work and had a nice banter before they anchored the 9 p.m. news before Covid-19, she claimed.
Vidyarthi and Masai joined Nation Media Group in 2008 and have been news co-anchors for over 11 years.
