New US ambassador to Kenya Margaret ‘Meg’ Whitman is welcomed at the US Embassy in Nairobi.


The successor of Kyle McCarter and the new US ambassador to Kenya Margaret ‘Meg’ Whitman landed in the country to presume the office.

The business executive and former CEO of Hewlett Packard (HP), Whitman was appointed the ambassador to Kenya last December by US President Joe Biden and approved by the US Senate in June.

Her arrival in Nairobi was confirmed in a tweet by the US Embassy in Kenya on Monday.

“Welcome to Kenya Ambassador Whitman!” read the post that was followed by a photo of the outgoing Chargé d’Affaires Eric Kneedler welcoming Whitman.

Whitman prides a well-knitted resume as a business executive and former candidate for Governor of California.

Also a Member of the Board of Procter & Gamble and General Motors, and National Board Chair at Teach for America.

Ex-CEO of Quib- a platform for content streaming for mobile devices, with remarkable outstanding performance and has been ranked top in leadership positions at Hasbro and StrideRite Corporation.

Whitman graduated from Princeton University, moved to Harvard for her MBA, and has worked in numerous US main corporations, including P&G, Disney, and Hasbro, before joining eBay in 1998.


“Among the many honours, Meg has been inducted into the Bay Area Business Hall of Fame and the U.S. Business Hall of Fame. She received an Honorary Doctor of Business Practice from Carnegie Mellon University,” stated the White House following Meg’s appointment.

Whitman who is 65 and a billionaire takes over from Ambassador Kyle McCarter and becomes the second on the list of US female representatives to Kenya since Prudence Bushnell’s appointment in 1999, and the 18th US ambassador to Kenya
