Okwara wins Mulembe Golf tournament, Kisia wins NCBA

Handicap 22 John Okwara was at his best at Friday’s Mulembe Golf competition at the par 72 Vet Lab Sports Club course, posting an outstanding score of 41 points to win the overall championship.

He won by three points over men’s champion Elijah Mbole, who earned 38 points. Mbole, on the other hand, defeated former Mulembe and Limuru Country Club captain Fred Ikana, who had also scored 38 points while playing off handicap 16.

Edwin Obuya finished third with 37 points, while Doris Knight won the women’s title with 37 points, ahead of Joyce Wafula on 35 and Carol Okara on 34.

Sharma Kushgra won the guests category with a great score of 42, beating out Shashwat Haris by one point, while Sankale Kantai placed third with 40 points.

Fred Ikana and Doris Night won the longest drives, while Anthony Njenga and Mercy Nyanchama won the closest to the pin.

Lady golfer Lucy Kisia carded 42 points to lead the NCBA Golf Series Division One scoreboard after playing at Royal Nairobi.

The handicapped 22 players defeated Fridah Shiroya, who finished second with 40 points.

In Division Two, handicap 24 Fred Obwora’s 40 points were enough to take first place ahead of Simaloi Mbeya, who carded a round of 43 points. He defeated handicapped Kalee Maleli, who finished second with 41 points.

Meanwhile, Lydia Mokaya (handicap 19) scored 40 points to win the Ladies Category.

Simultaneously, Kimani Gicheru produced an astounding 35 points to secure junior bragging rights, defeating second-placed Wambugu Ikinu by a single point.

Duncan Kivuitu and Lucas Oluoch each received nines after scoring 22 points.

“We have witnessed a great golfing display today which is something we are proud of. The tournament is only just getting competitive and there are some really exciting times ahead for everyone involved in this series,” said NCBA Group Director for Asset Finance, Lennox Mugambi.

Mercy Nyanchama shot a gross of 79 to win the Railway Ladies Open at Kenya Railway Golf Club, while Faith Ontune won the A division with an 85 gross and Millicent Mello won the B division with a 98.

The C category winner was Terry Nganga on 40 points, while Belinda Wanjiru finished second in the A division on 91 gross, and placing second in B was Bernice Ng’inja on 100.

Nancy Kariuki won the A division with a net score of 75, and Ruth Mwende won the B division with a score of 72.
