According to a tweet, the feature was to be in progress 5 years ago, but WhatsApp discarded it days later.
This latest version comes after the app’s previous upgrade, which improved a function that allows users to react to messages and is still in use.
WhatsApp also revealed that other features in development include WhatsApp Premium, which will allow users to leave groups silently without notifying other members, and group polls, which will allow users to migrate chat histories and media from Android to iOS, as well as create and share polls in groups with up to 12 options.
