The sultry, flirtatious, and bar-engrossed rap anthem basks in Groovy’s

cinnamon-dipped vocals marauding the thumping instrumental, produced by Nairobi based beatsmith K6.

Groovy’s charm and nimble flows have earned her nominations for awards such as Best Female rapper for three years (2019, 2020, 2021) in a row on Kenya’s premium Hip Hop guild award show, Unkut Africa.

“Pretty much. (Feelin’ It) Is like a summertime anthem for my ladies. Basically my comeback after a long while of not releasing music I made this song for my ladies something to vibe to and party too. And it’s just also about all the fake people out there who aren’t really keeping it real,

I’m calling them out too,” Groovy said.

“Feelin’ It” is the first lead single from Groovy Jo’s deluxe offering of her 2020 “The Groovy Way” LP which featured bubbling numbers such as “Naibop”, “Wykat”, and the sticky Tik Tok offering, “Mbogi”.

Groovy will follow up “Feelin’ It” with her second official LP, “The Groovy Way (Deluxe Edition)”which will be released on July 1 and feature rappers Boutross, Asum Garvey.

“The deluxe tape is more versatile and fun. Different sounds, there’s a story there and the collaboration with two amazing rappers Boutross and Asum,

“Uliza Uambiwe” is like an anthem to me ’cause I feel like I used different artists who have different sounds and are dope in their

line of work. What we say in the song shows how we view ourselves in the industry and also our opinion of the industry,” she said.

Groovy Jo uses her edgy, assertive lyricism to freely express herself as an unapologetic Black woman and encourages other women to be bold and themselves. Her energy and confidence are infectious and create a fun atmosphere for her audience. Groovy Jo is known for her word play and using her lyrics to call out people who undermine her talent because of being boxed in as a female rapper.

She encourages more women to take up space and run the show, highlighting how women are actually the ones with power and that they should use it wisely.

Groovy Jo is a rapper, singer, and songwriter who first started releasing music in 2018 when she met with ADF manager Musau who took her to the studio to begin working with producer Lemario. Musically, her sound combines trap, hip hop, drill, Afrobeats, ragga, and

Afropop.

She was on the Homeboyz Jumpman Freshman List and nominated for Best Female Artist in the 2019 Unkut Awards. She has worked with artists like Boutross, Kay Green and Asum Garvey and made the list of honorable mentions of 2021’s Best Rappers from Kenya as listed by Kulture Vulture.
