The Melila Massacre has shown the dark side of humanity on a global scale through the power of social media, the world collectively witnessed the deaths of dozens of African refugees. The inhumane treatment of these poor immigrants lay bare the ghastly and hypocritical discourse about the “defense of human rights” that the capitalist “democracies” of the involved countries like to display, based on acts of moral turpitude, greed, and racism. The recent spate of violence refugees who were seeking asylum were met with has left numerous persons dead. It was an ugly scene that painted a horrid picture that sadly confirmed some lives matter less than others.

The media and world leaders across the board have not taken the initiative to address and investigate the matter in a satisfactory manner and most netizens are more perturbed by the degree of brutality and cruelty seen.
Dozens of Africans who were trying to cross from Morocco to Spain at the enclave border of Melila was an insult to the definition of security.
The incident has brought fourth a myriad of questions revolving around why Spanish forces had to deal with these immigrants in such a severe manner at the border when earlier on, the Spanish government accepted over 100,000 refugees fleeing Ukraine.
A user from the online community said: “Feels like when it comes to black people there’s a global consensus.”
Sánchez Pedro, Spanish Prime Minister has described the events as a “violent and organized act by mafias that traffic human beings to a city that is in Spanish territory… It was an attack on the territorial identity of a country in a violent manner.” As if poor and desperate immigrants had attacked the border with guns and bombs.
“If you see the images, you will see that the Moroccan gendarmerie has worked hard to try to prevent this violent assault on the Melilla fence. It is important to recognize the extraordinary work that the State Security Forces and bodies are doing in Melilla in the fight against irregular migration, and also to recognize the work that the Moroccan Government has done to try to stop a violent assault that calls into question our own territorial integrity,” he added.
Human rights and dignity are matters concerning humanity that hold an urgency and a need to be adhered to and addressed solemnly.
The African Union should be categorical in dealing with this matter that involve human rights violations in Africa, to ensure that inhumane attitudes and actions are curbed.
Silence and laxity to act witnessed by the African Leaders is somewhat a failure.
The ordeal claimed the lives of the people who deserve honor and dignity, as expected the leaders should have spoken, come out, and aired their concerns like Algeria did.
In conclusion, this conflict could have been addressed in a far better way than having innocent lives seeking safety murdered in broad daylight instead of considering that perhaps what they face is horrid enough for them to risk their lives.
