Velocity Swimming
will host the 2022 Apple Capital Open Swim Meet at the City of Wenatchee Pool
from June 3 through June 5, 2022

Tom Wyllie, Velocity Swimming Head Coach says the
competition allows swimmers to measure their progress after training in 25-yard
pools all season, known as short courses.

Since he held the position of Head Coach for Velocity
Swimming in October the Apple Capital Open is Wyllie’s first competition.

“This meet is one of the largest outdoor meets in the
state of Washington,” he said. “It kicks off what is called the long course
season.”

The 3-day meet attracts over 900 swimmers from across the state of
Washington, to compete in a 50-meter pool.

Wyllie says swimmers will compete in a 50-meter pool, the
same size pool Olympians train and race in.

“They’ll get to experience
competition from swimmers all over the state. They will get the opportunity to
compete in a long course pool-a 50-meter pool.”

Contestants and spectators come to experience the
anticipation of watching swimmers compete in every possible swimming event.

Both groups are interested in seeing how local swimmers
fare in terms of competition across the state.

In addition to the competition, the event is a Wenatchee
valley tradition for over 40 years, and the positive economic impact for
Wenatchee is considerable.

The swimming event brings people from out of town
who rent motels, go shopping, and dine at local restaurants. The meet brings
over 500,000 dollars to the region.
