Kanu party leader Gideon Moi reaffirms to Raila Odinga that his party Kanu will not bolt out of the Azimio-OKA coalition and promise to work behind him to fulfil his presidential ambitions.

While addressing Kanu Campaign Coordination Committee in Nairobi, on 19th May 2022, Moi has firmly stated that Kanu is in Azimio-OKA formation to stay, hence is no turning back.

“KANU is firmly in Azimio and there’s no turning back. We are determined to bring everybody on board to ensure a resounding victory for Hon. Raila since we believe in inclusivity, individual liberty, and national unity,” said Gideon.

The KANU Chairman  has been the talk in town because Wiper tilted the scale, defecting from the Azimio-OKA coalition although the coalition reached a consultative agreement. What’s Moi’s political plan? A question that has ranged in Kenyans’ minds.

Meanwhile, Kalonzo’s recently decree of running as an independent presidential candidate appears to be the primary source of the OKA coalition uproar.

Despite Moi receiving blows in the OKA  team, he vows not to ditch Azimio, having a strong belief that Raila will be the next president of the Republic of Kenya.

Before the party’s constitution, Kanu has said it does not have any binding agreements with the Wiper party and that Kalonzo’s association with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi is personal.

Downplaying any fallout within the party and its ranks Kanu secretary general Nick Salat said Kanu is fully in Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.

“I was following the party’s directions. We are not in Wiper and we have no relations with it at all, so the move by the chairman to skip the KICC meeting was not our plan but his own,” Salat said.

He further said they are not intending to quit Azimio, despite Gideon skipping the KICC event on Monday where Raila Odinga unveiled Martha Karua as his running mate.

Salat being the Secretary-general who appended the party’s signatures to join the coalition, said he was under obligation to attend.

Kanu and Wiper which are the major parties that joined One Kenya Alliance are among more than 20 other parties that joined the Azimio coalition.

Senator Moi was expected to join Kalonzo in his campaign tour to the coast but he gave a wide birth due to their political ideologies.

He has also remained tightlipped, about whether he is going to clinch the Baringo senatorial seat or battling for the Baringo Member of parliament position.
